I qualified as a solicitor in 2004 and practiced as a corporate solicitor in traditional commercial law firms (Sherrards Solicitors in St Albans (7 years) and Pictons Solicitors in Luton (4 years)) until I set up Canopy Law in 2011, which ran for 7 years until merging with Perrin Mydedelton Solicitors in 2018. The potted history can be found on LinkedIn.

I am a company lawyer. But I try hard not to be a typical one. Or at least, to be a modern one – for example, I don’t charge by the hour. Everything I do is on a fixed fee. I know how difficult it can be to find great legal help with the right balance of old-fashioned personal service and at a reasonable fixed price. That’s why I only work using fixed fees that are agreed before the work starts.

My overall objective is always to keep things simple and straightforward. I have advised plenty of sole traders and owner managers, as well as the company owners of the London Aquarium in their sale of the business to Merlin Entertainments, Luton Airport and Altium UK.

My particular specialism is:

1. Shareholder Agreements – Managing the business relationship between joint partners in a company – this is done via a shareholder agreement – which is sometimes referred to as a ‘living will’ for company owners.

2. Buying and selling shares in a company – Helping company owners through the process of buying or selling a business.

3. Mergers and acquisitions – guiding shareholders through the sale and purchase of a company via shares, including the SPA, disclosure letter, due diligence, stock transfer forms and directors resignations.
